One Day Without Shoes 2011 FSU edition!














Thank you to everyone who came out and bared their SOLES with us! It certainly was an amazing experience! Thank you Joseph La Belle for snapping these awesome moments during ODWS!   1. TOMS Shoes is a flawed, misguided "charity." TOMS is popular because people in our culture like to feel philanthropic by buying something for themselves. It's painless charity because you get something out of it that you were going to buy for yourself anyway. It makes selfishness feel selfless. One Day Without Shoes helps TOMS Shoes' popularity because people LIKE being barefoot and enjoy having an excuse to do it in their everyday lives.

    Shoes are not what people in extreme poverty really need. What they need are fixes for systemic problems that keep REAL basic necessities - food, clean water and sanitation - out of their reach. Buying TOMS shoes is no better charity than sending Ugandan kids your old Batman T-shirt. It makes you feel good, makes them look more Westernized and fixes NOTHING.
